- , Vienna Green chemical week in Austria  Austrian Chemistry Days and the conference "A Green Chemical Deal"

The communication of the Green Deal by the European Commission has set a very ambitious agenda for the European community becoming a climate neutral society by 2050. This requires a transition of production and consumption from a largely petrochemical-based to a sustainability-driven approach. The chemical sector is particularly challenged by this objective, as it is not only highly energy consuming but also dependent from non-sustainable raw materials.

Therefore it needs to move to sustainable resources and renewable energy. Being aware of this challenge, the Austrian government programme foresees the development of programmes and initiatives for "Green Chemistry". Furthermore innovative business models aiming at a more efficient and sustainable production and use of chemicals have to be established.

In this context, and after extended talks online, the organising institutions are proud to announce a whole week full of opportunities to come together, exchange views and discuss various aspects of Green Chemistry.

Austrian Chemistry Days

From 20–22 September 2022, the Austrian Chemistry Days will take place in Vienna. This biennial meeting is organized by the Austrian Chemical Society and offers an opportunity to follow and discuss presentations of recent progresses in different areas of chemistry and chemical(-related) technologies. It especially aims at a strong interaction between all generations of chemists as well as universities and industry. The major topic for this year will be the challenge of “Green Chemistry for a Sustainable Europe”.

Interested parties are invited to register for the Austrian Chemistry Days: registration and more detailed information about the programme (→ chemietage.at)

Conference "A Green Chemical Deal"

In a following event, on 22–23 September 2022, the Austrian Ministry for Climate Protection (BMK), together with the Austrian Environment Agency, organises the conference "A Green Chemical Deal". The conference will take place at the same location and intends to bring together scientists, students, representatives from industry, NGOs and administration to discuss issues of chemical policy in the context of the Green Deal. The conference takes place at a particularly exciting moment, when the Commission is about to publish a number of regulatory initiatives on European Chemical Policy.

We cordially invite interested persons to participate in the conference: registration and additional information (→ Environment Agency Austria)
