Active and Assisted Living (AAL) Research and Development Programme

The Active and Assisted Living Research and Development Programme is a joint European programme for ICT-based solutions for active and healthy ageing at home, in the community, or at work. These shall improve the quality of life of older adults.

The AAL Programm is based on article 185 of the EU treaty and is co funded by the European Commission (EC) and 17 member states. The duration is 2014-2020.

The Programme is operated by the AAL Association (AALA) based in Brussel with the partner states as members. The projects partners are treated according to the criteria of the national funding programmes, in Austria it is the thematic programme "ICT oft he Future" managed by the Austrian Research and Promotion Agency FFG.

Selected projects have to consist of at least 3 partners from 3 different partner states including at least one industrial partner. After a national pre-check according to the elegibility criteria the project proposals are evaluated by an international jury.

The Active and Assisted Living (AAL) Research and Development Programme (2014-2020) is the follow up of the Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme (AAL JP 2008-2013).
