Marketplace Austria for food and beverages in 2018

On 17 October 2018  the Austrian Board of Foreign Trade (Außenwirtschaft Österreich) invited Austrian and international representatives of the food and beverage industry to the traditional Marketplace Austria (“Marktplatz Österreich”) at the Federal Economic Chamber (WKO).

The one-day event is organised by Außenwirtschaft Österreich of the Austrian Federal Chamber of Economy and this year for the 13th time offered Austrian top producers of agricultural products, food and beverages an opportunity to get into conversation with prominent purchasers from the retail food industry and food wholesalers from about 50 countries.

About 1,500 company meetings between Austrian and international stakeholders not only offer and strengthen business contacts, but in many cases also create opportunities for new distribution channels.

With this event Austria promotes its world-wide reputation for natural resources, high-quality food and exemplary quality control.

This year again a focus was on organic products.

The event was opened by Michael Otter, Head of Außenwirtschaft Austria of WKO. The head of AMA Marketing, Michael Blass, devoted his keynote speech to "The taste of nature!" and then Iris Marlovits, Senior Adviser of Enterprise Europe Network/EEN, presented her institution.

The Secretary-General at the Federal Ministry for Sustainability and Tourism, Josef Plank, was invited to open the marketplace together with Michael Otter. In his statement, Plank highlighted in particular the new structure of the Ministry, priorities of the Austrian EU Council Presidency during the second half of 2018 as well as the specific features of Austria’s agriculture and food production, and the successful development of agricultural foreign trade in Austria.

Having been a cooperation partner of Marktplatz for many years, the Austrian Federal Ministry for Sustainability and Tourism again had an information desk at the event and used the opportunity for in-depth talks with international visitors and Austrian exhibitors.
