Bye Bye Plastic Bags on the road to success

The figures from the first survey are promising.

As the initial survey has shown, the companies managed to reduce the number of all single-use carrier bags (including produce bags) in 2016 by 15% i.e. by almost 89 million bags compared to 2015.

Based on these figures, it was estimated that in Austria’s companies no more than 30 lightweight and heavier plastic carrier bags were sold per inhabitant in 2016.

The goal now is to limit the number of plastic bags by 50% to a maximum of 25 bags per capita per year until 2019, and also to reduce the consumption of single-use carrier bags made of other materials.

Tip: Whenever you can, bring your own bag with you when you go shopping!
